What is a Phobias?

“A phobia is an irrational fear, a kind of anxiety disorder in which the sufferer has a relentless dread of a situation, living creature, place or thing. Individuals with a phobia go to great lengths to avoid a perceived danger which is much greater in their minds than in real life. If confronted with the source of their phobia, the person will suffer enormous distress, which can interfere with their normal function; it can sometimes lead to total panic. For some people, even thinking about their phobia is immensely distressing.” – According to Christian Nordqvist (What is a phobia? What causes phobia?).

What is happening? Xanthophobia. What else?

Do you know that people can have a fear of color? People think it is just a fear like another but they don’t know how this fear prevents many person in the world to live like others. Xanthophobia is a part of the chromophobia which is the fear of yellow. It is more exactly the fear or the aversion to the color yellow. With xanthophobia, the person can’t live normally because she has a fear. No, it is more than a simple fear, she is literally terrified of the color yellow. She can’t go out because the Sun is yellow and she can’t watch TV because she will see yellow on the TV. This person can’t have a real life. Our aim with this search is to explain the causes, the symptoms, the consequences and the new ways to treat her. We can have xanthophobia by many way. The religion and the culture of someone can influence someone to be afraid by the color yellow. For example, Chinese are afraid of yellow because in the past, if one received a yellow scarf, it was an imperial order to commit suicide. Today yet, this fear remains in this country because it is this culture’s tradition. The common cause of this phobia is traumatic experiences involving the color yellow, like getting stung by a bee or even getting hit by a yellow car or school bus. Xanthophobia, as the others phobias, is not contagious.

As with any phobia, the symptoms vary by person depending on their level of fear. Symptoms typically include extreme anxiety, dread and anything associated with panic such as shortness of breath, rapid breathing, irregular heartbeat, sweating, excessive sweating, dry mouth, nausea, inability to articulate words or sentences, shaking and many others. This is a deficiency oh the view who entail an irrational fear of the color yellow and all which is of this color. In consequence, yellow reminds xanthophobes about pain and in the unconscious level reminds them about the loss of life. When xanthophobes encounter something yellow (like daffodils, gold, and yellow pages), they may immediately close their eyes or panic in anxiety, depending on the severity. For severe xanthopobes, even seeing or hearing the word yellow can cause fright. Sufferers would not eat cheese, mustard, lemonade, bananas, egg yolk, and anything that is yellow. They may also close their eyes and hold their breaths when urinating (Xanthophobia Information, What are the symptoms?). The xanthopobes’ life is really difficult because they can’t do the same things that us because they are afraid of the color yellow.

Xanthophobia is not just a fear, sufferers have adapted his life’s style to this phobia. Also, the person who suffers from xanthophobia are not different of us, they got just a problem which doesn’t prevent there to be like us. Next time, if you see a person who has xanthophobia don’t laugh at them because you can be at their place.
